Reveries and Rhythms is an exploration of the Filipino diasporic experience — of real and borrowed memories enlivened with imagination and of the exciting cacophony of growing up with mingled heritages.

Beginning with musical vignettes shaped by nostalgia, stories, and folkloric retellings, we revel in the stories of our parents and grandparents, in the exuberance of fiestas and in the longing of tender strains of song. We then bring tradition alive in performance, complementing the sound of the rondalla instruments with a wide range of percussion. Even the plucked attacks of the rondalla’s metal-stringed instruments have a percussive quality, reminiscent of the click of wooden heels, the snap of castanets, and the striking of bamboo. This relationship between rondalla and dance – indeed, rondalla and percussion — stretches from traditional to popular music. Even more, it metaphorically connotes the rhythms of our lives.
