About Iskwelahang Pilipino’s Organization

IP’s Organization consists of an Executive Director and Board of Directors. The Board of Directors’ Executive Committee includes a President, Vice-President, Secretary, Treasurer. Presently, Committees within the Board of Directors include: Communications, COVID-19, Curriculum, Executive, Finance, Lowell Folk Festival, Nominations, Outreach & Events, Spring Production, Strategic Planning Steering, and Tiangge.

Our Board of Directors’ main duties are to focus on the big picture and contribute to the mission and policy oversight of the school. All IP Board Members serve three years per term and are allowed to serve a maximum of three consecutive terms. Between Board and Committee involvement, we expect our Board Members to dedicate at least 4-8 hours per month to their work.

Responsibilities of our Board Members include:

  • Advancing and ensuring the relevance of and adherence to IP’s mission during their service.
  • Arriving prepared for and actively participating in board meetings.
  • Serving on committees to plan community events.
  • Hiring and overseeing the school’s Executive Director.
  • Recruiting new Board Members each year.
  • Leading fundraising efforts in order to fund and support school activities.
  • Fulfilling legal and fiduciary responsibilities by ensuring IP’s financial health and establishing policies.
  • Maintaining open lines of communication with the community.

Iskwelahang Pilipino Board of Directors Nomination Process

  1. A member of the community must be nominated through our Board Nomination Form. Individuals may self-nominate or be nominated by someone else.
  2. The Nominations Committee will notify nominated individuals. Nominees must provide a written confirmation of their decision to accept or decline the nomination.
  3. Each nominee will be asked to complete a short questionnaire.
  4. Each nominee will have an initial interview with the Nominations Committee.
  5. Then, each nominee will have an interview with the entire Board of Directors.
  6. Once all of the interviews have been completed, the Board of Directors will vote on the nominees for the year.
  7. The Chair of the Board will inform the elected nominees and confirm their acceptance of the position.
  8. New Board Members are officially introduced at IP’s Annual Meeting.
